FCT polls: AMAC SDP candidate alleges threats to life
The Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) chairmanship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Obinna Simon, popularly known as MC Tagwaye, has raised concerns over alleged threats to his life and that of his supporters by a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking at a media briefing over the weekend, Simon condemned what he described as dangerous rhetoric targeting non-indigenes of the Federal Capital Territory ahead of the elections. He said the intimidation is unconstitutional.
“This morning, I received a video showing an APC stakeholder threatening voters, especially non-indigenes, claiming that anyone who votes for the SDP or ADC will be forced to leave,” he said.
Simon added that he plans to share the video on social media and alert security agencies. “Whatever happens to me, my family, or my supporters, that individual should be held responsible. The APC candidate should also be held accountable,” he said, stressing that elections are a lawful contest in which every citizen has the right to participate.
Reacting yesterday, Kingsley Madaki, Senior Special Assistant to the APC candidate, dismissed the claims. He said no such threats were made during the party’s campaign or elsewhere, urging all candidates to keep campaigns issue-focused rather than inflammatory.
