Arokodare scores first EPL goal

Nigerian striker Tolu Arokodare scored his first Premier League goal for Wolverhampton Wanderers in their 2-1 defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates on Saturday.

The 25-year-old headed past David Raya in the 90th minute to equalise for bottom-placed Wolves after Arsenal had taken the lead through a bizarre own goal by Sam Johnstone.

Arokodare’s moment of glory came when Mateus Mané fizzed in a cross that the Nigerian striker headed past Raya, sparking bedlam in the away end.

However, devastation soon returned in a cruel twist as Yerson Mosquera headed Bukayo Saka’s cross into his own net in the 94th minute to snatch victory for the Gunners.

Arsenal had dominated proceedings from the start, with Saka and Declan Rice leading attacks down the right flank, but found Wolves’ resolute defence difficult to break down.

Despite the hosts’ pressure, Wolves created the game’s first shot on target in the 27th minute through Hwang Hee-chan, though Raya saved routinely.

The frustration at the Emirates grew as half-time approached, with Gabriel Martinelli sending two efforts wide and seeing another deflected behind.

The deadlock was finally broken when Johnstone tipped Saka’s corner onto the post, but it bounced onto his back and into the net.

Wolves applied pressure late on and looked set to earn a point through Arokodare’s header before Mosquera’s own goal confirmed their 10th consecutive defeat in all competitions.

The victory extended Arsenal’s winning run in head-to-head matches to nine and maintained their position at the top of the Premier League table.
