Fire guts sections of Kano Hospital
A late afternoon fire on Thursday destroyed several offices and service rooms at the Rogo General Hospital in Rogo Local Government Area of Kano State.
The Kano State Fire Service said it received a distress call at about 2:36 pm from one Abdullahi Ahmad Rifan, reporting the outbreak within the hospital premises.
According to a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the Service, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, emergency teams from the Karaye and Rogo fire stations were immediately deployed to the scene.
Upon arrival, firefighters found a one-storey building measuring about 400 x 400 feet engulfed in flames.
The statement noted that the affected areas on the ground floor included the Physiotherapy Clinic (CMO), an MEU office, the Dental Unit, OPD, ACC/Card room, DOT office, and the Laboratory office.
“Preliminary findings indicate that the fire was caused by an electrical spark. However, the agency will further investigate the incident to determine the full cause of the outbreak,” the statement said.
The Director of the Fire Service, Alhaji Sani Anas of the Emergency Response Unit, urged members of the public to exercise greater caution, especially in the ongoing harmattan season, to reduce the risk of fire disasters and safeguard lives and property.
Although no casualties were reported as of the time of filing this report, officials said an assessment of the extent of damage was ongoing.
