
Police warn against stealing corpses in Edo
The Edo State Police Command has warned against a disturbing trend of corpses disappearing from some morgues across the state.
The Commissioner of Police (CP), Monday Agbonika, said the command would not tolerate such crime and warned that anyone found culpable would face the full weight of the law.
The CP said the command also arrested 821 suspects involved in kidnapping, murder, armed robbery, rape, cultism, among others, in the state in 2025.
Giving a breakdown, the CP said 39 of the suspects were arrested for armed robbery, 171 for kidnapping, 117 for murder, 62 for rape/sexual offences, 239 for cultism and 36 for unlawful possession of firearms, while 157 others for other offences.
Agbonika further disclosed that 377 kidnapped victims were rescued while 11 stolen vehicles, 188 arms and 422 ammunition were recovered.
On the yuletide preparations, he said the command had significantly strengthened security across the state through intensified visibility policing, strategic patrols, targeted stop-and-search operations, intelligence-led deployments and sustained community engagement.
