B/Haram intercepts 4 trailers, steals over 100 cows in Borno
Suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists have intercepted four trailers loaded with cattle and carted away over 100 cows near Kareto in Mobbar LGA of Borno State.
This is coming two days after the terrorists burnt down four trucks transporting beans to Maiduguri from Monguno town close to Garin Kashim in Guzamala LGA.
Local and security sources confirmed to Daily Trust that the incident happened around 1.25pm, shortly after the trailers took off from Damasak.
One of the sources said the insurgents operated in the area for over one hour, offloaded the cows from the vehicles and tended them into the bush.
“In fact, they waited for the other two trailers to arrive before setting the heads ablaze. Over a hundred cows have been stolen by the terrorists.
“The drivers were lucky, none of them was killed, they were on their way from Damasak to Maiduguri when the incident happened.
One of the trailers’ drivers said the vehicles left Damasak about 30 minutes apart, but the insurgents blocked the road till all four trailers arrived.
“Thank God, they did not kill us, but they burnt down our vehicles. I’m on my way to Maiduguri now,” he said.
He also complained that the lack of security operatives on the road encouraged the insurgents to carry out frequent operations in the area.
He urged the security operatives to fortify the road as was done on the Gwoza axis, where a squad of soldiers have been stationed strategically on the road to prevent such attacks.
On February 1, 2026, the insurgents killed 17 people in Guzamala-Abbari village, an incident that was condemned by the Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly, Abdulkarim Lawan, who represents the constituency.
