Shettima reaffirms FG’s commitment to protecting traditional institutions

Vice President Kashim Shettima has restated the commitment of President Bola Tinubu’s administration to preserving and safeguarding Nigeria’s traditional institutions.

Shettima stated this on Friday at the 45th anniversary celebration of the Emir of Gumel, Alhaji Ahmed Sani II, and the commissioning of the Gumel Central Mosque in Gumel Local Government Area of Jigawa State, according to a post via his official X handle.

The vice president described traditional rulers as the closest leaders to the grassroots and custodians of societal values whose influence and institutions endure beyond political tenures.

He noted that while the tenure of elected political office holders is limited to a maximum of eight years, traditional institutions remain permanent pillars of the society.

“Therefore, we must respect them, we must take care of them, and we must preserve as well as protect the institution,” Shettima said.

He also congratulated the Emir on his 45th anniversary, commending his leadership and praying for God to grant him 6 life to celebrate his golden jubilee and centenary milestones.
