ABUMET visits JKS orphanage in annual CSR outreach
To commemorate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, a glass and aluminium solutions company ABUMET on Wednesday carried out its annual Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) outreach with a visit to the JKS Home for Children with Special Needs in Kubwa, Abuja.
Representatives of ABUMET expressed love, care, and support to children living with various disabilities as they presented essential food items, household supplies, and other necessities to the home.
General Manager of ABUMET, Diemo Schillack, praised the dedication of the caregivers and the transformative work being done at the facility.
He emphasised that ABUMET’s CSR efforts go beyond providing material support, but also aim to inspire hope, build trust, and reinforce the belief that an organisation’s success is tied to the wellbeing of the society in which it operates.
“It is a good thing happening in this home. Taking care of kids with special needs is very intense, and it is commendable what you are doing for the community,” he said.
Speaking during the visit, the Director of the Home, Mrs Nifeni Ajileye, said the facility was founded in 2010 and currently caters for 16 children between the ages of seven and thirty. Many of them, she noted, are orphans or were abandoned due to their conditions.
She explained that several of the children receive physiotherapy as well as independent living training to enhance their ability to care for themselves.
“Some of the kids are orphans; some were abandoned because of their condition. We don’t have children from wealthy homes just looking for support—they are children who sincerely need our help. We provide all forms of care for them. Some are in physiotherapy. We train them to be independent and able to do things on their own,” she said.
Mrs Ajileye expressed appreciation to ABUMET for the gesture.
“We are very excited, and it is a huge privilege for us. We understand there are many homes for underprivileged children and children with disabilities in Abuja, so for ABUMET to consider us is a privilege we do not take for granted,” she added.
