Man flees after stabbing friend over woman in FCT
A 32-year-old man, Haruna Lazarus, has fled after stabbing his friend, Samson Enoch, with a broken bottle during a fight over a woman in the Godoji community of Kuje Area Council of the FCT.
A resident, Ishaya Moses, said the incident happened around 10pm on Saturday during a Christmas party.
Moses explained that a misunderstanding ensued after Lazarus arrived at the party with his girlfriend, and that while Lazarus was distracted, Enoch reportedly took the woman aside to speak with her.
He said, “When Lazarus realised his girlfriend was missing, he went in search of her and found her in a private discussion with his friend.
“Lazarus, enraged by the sight, slapped Enoch, leading to a scuffle. In the heat of the fight, Lazarus picked a bottle, broke it and stabbed his friend in the right thigh, causing a deep injury.
“Upon seeing Enoch collapse and noticing other youths rushing to help, Lazarus fled the scene. The woman also left the venue shortly after the incident, while vigilantes were called to transport the victim to a clinic.”
A vigilante, Danjuma Markus, via telephone on Saturday, said his team was preparing for night patrol when they received a distress call.
He said, “We mobilised to the scene immediately, but unfortunately, the suspect had already escaped. The injured man was taken to a clinic and treated.”
Another source told our reporter that Lazarus had long suspected Enoch of secretly dating his girlfriend which caused a rift between them to the extent that they stopped speaking to each other.
A police officer at the Kuje Police Division said the incident was reported by vigilantes and that efforts were ongoing to apprehend the culprit.
