Don’t Sacrifice Nigeria’s Peace, National Security on Altar of Political Interference, Say Arewa Youths

A group known as Arewa Youth Advocate for Good Governance, has declared that Nigeria’s peace and national security must never be sacrificed on the altar of political interference.

The declaration was made by the group during a press conference held in Bauchi yesterday, titled:

‘Political Interference Is Risking Nigeria’s Peace — Allow Defence Minister Christopher Musa to Deliver’.

The group stated that, “We address this press conference today in Bauchi State with a deep sense of responsibility and patriotism at a very critical moment in the life of our nation.”

It added that, “We are deeply concerned that persistent political interference in security operations is undermining the progress being recorded and exposing innocent citizens to danger.”

It stressed that, “National security is not a political contest, and it must never be treated as such. When security decisions are driven by partisan considerations rather than professional judgment, the cost is always paid by ordinary Nigerians.”

According to the group, “This gathering is convened by the Arewa Youth Advocate for Good Governance, in collaboration with other credible support groups drawn from the 19 Northern states of Nigeria, under the distinguished Chairmanship of Adamu Muhammad Abdullahi, the National Chairman of Arewa Youth Advocate for Good Governance.”

According to the group, “Our message today is clear, firm, and unambiguous: Across Northern Nigeria and indeed the entire country, communities continue to suffer the painful consequences of insecurity. Farmers are unable to access their farmlands, traders face constant threats on major highways, and families are displaced from their ancestral homes. These challenges demand professionalism, consistency, and unwavering focus—not political distractions or personal interests.”

“We therefore reaffirm our confidence in the leadership, experience, and professionalism of the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, whose strategic direction and commitment have demonstrated a renewed determination to restore peace and stability across the country. His efforts must be protected from undue political pressure in order to achieve lasting results,” It added.

The group further added that, “Our call from Bauchi today is simple but powerful: Allow the Defence leadership to work. Grant them the operational independence and institutional support required to deliver on their mandate.”

It added that, “We urge political leaders at all levels to rise above narrow interests and place national security above all else. Security agencies must be allowed to function within established professional frameworks, free from interference, intimidation, or manipulation.”

“As youths leaders and stakeholders from across the 19 Northern States, we reaffirm our unwavering commitment to peace, unity, and good governance. We will continue to speak out against any action that threatens the stability of our nation and the future of our people,” It added.

The group concluded, “In conclusion, we call on the Federal Government, the National Assembly, and all relevant authorities to strengthen institutional discipline, respect the chain of command, and give full support to the Defence leadership. Nigeria deserves peace. Our people deserve security. Let professionals deliver.”
