Gombe gov’s ex-aide quits APC for ADC
A prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gombe State, Dr Auwal Abdullahi Gafakan Akko, has defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) alongside hundreds of his supporters from Akko Local Government Area.
Until recently, he served as a special adviser to Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya and is regarded as a key political figure who played a significant role in the APC’s success in Akko during the 2023 general elections.
Supporters from Kumo West, Kumo Gabar, Kumo Central and Lembi wards were among those who joined the ADC, boosting the party’s grassroots presence in the local government area.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Dr Gafakan Akko said their decision was informed by the ADC’s vision, internal organisation and commitment to justice, inclusive development and good governance.
He said they had pledged loyalty to the leadership of Alhaji Muhammad Jibrin Barde.
ADC officials welcomed the new members, describing the development as a major boost to the party in Gombe State and assuring them of full integration. Political observers say the defection could reshape political alignments in Akko and beyond.
