The Minister of State for Works, Bello Goronyo, says the ongoing Lagos–Badagry Superhighway, a project he said would unlock major economic potential and strengthen national integration.
This is as he hailed President Bola Tinubu as a detribalised leader whose infrastructure projects are deliberately spread across all regions of the country.
Goronyo made the remarks on Thursday while inspecting the Kebbi section of the road project.
Expressing satisfaction with the pace and quality of work, the Minister disclosed that the construction firm, Hightech, had already completed nearly four kilometres of reinforced concrete pavement.
He added that the company had cleared about 64 kilometres of the corridor and completed earth filling on 15 kilometres.
“You can see that Hightech has completed almost four kilometres of reinforced concrete.
“They have also cleared nearly 64 kilometres and finished the filling of 15 kilometres,” Goronyo said, noting that solar streetlights had already been installed in sections where work had been completed.
He stressed that the project underscores President Tinubu’s resolve to deliver highways built to last for generations.
“Mr President is not just constructing roads, he is building highways that will last 50 years or more.
“You can imagine a road constructed from Illela, near the Niger Republic border, all the way to Lagos, linking the sub-Saharan region. This will create great economic opportunities,” he added.
According to Goronyo, the superhighway will create thousands of jobs during and after completion, improve trade activities, and help reduce insecurity across communities along the route.
The Minister also urged Northern citizens not to be misled by political narratives ahead of the 2027 general elections, reminding them that the project was first conceived during the Shagari administration but never took off until President Tinubu revived it.
“You don’t need a rocket scientist to know that this road requires a huge amount of money to build. This shows the President’s love, concern, and commitment to a united and prosperous Nigeria,” he asserted.
Goronyo added that President Tinubu has “started strongly,” and with sustained support, would “take the country to the promised land.”
