Hoodlums strangle cyclist in FCT community
A commercial motorcyclist, Bala Hamisu, has been strangled to death by suspected hoodlums in Gaube village in Kuje Area Council of the FCT.
A resident, Samaila Yunusa, said the incident occurred on Saturday around 8pm shortly after the cyclist picked two passengers.
He said the suspects, who claimed to be timber operators, hired Hamisu at the popular Tipper Garage Junction to convey them to Gaube village.
Yunusa explained that after travelling some kilometres and approaching a forest near the village, the hoodlums forced the cyclist to stop.
He said one of the men used a cable to strangle him, adding that the hoodlums used a handkerchief to gag the cyclist and dragged his corpse into the bush before escaping with the motorcycle.
The victim was later discovered near the road by villagers travelling to Gaube, who immediately alerted vigilantes.
He further said, “By the time the vigilantes arrived at the scene, the cyclist had already died. His body was taken back to Kuje town where he was identified by fellow motorcyclists.”
A police source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, confirmed the incident.
