Coastal highway: FG begins compensation for Akwa Ibom farm owners

The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Works, has commenced payment of compensation to owners of farmlands affected by the construction of Section 3A of the Coastal Highway in Okobo, Nsit Atai, and Uruan Local Government Areas of Akwa Ibom State.

The development was contained in a notice signed by the Controller of the Federal Ministry of Works in Akwa Ibom State, Vincent Okoduwa, and made available to newsmen in Uyo, the state capital, on Sunday.

Okoduwa advised all individuals whose farmlands have already been valued for compensation to visit the Federal Secretariat Complex, Uyo – 1st Floor, Conference Room for verification and capturing.

“All individuals whose farmlands have already been valued for compensation are advised to visit the Federal Secretariat Complex, Uyo – 1st Floor, Conference Room for verification and capturing,” the notice partly read.

He further urged those whose farmlands are affected by the Coastal Highway construction but have not yet been valued to present themselves for the verification exercise.

“Those whose farmlands are affected by the coastal highway construction but have not yet been valued are also requested to present themselves for the verification exercise,” the notice added.

Okoduwa disclosed that all affected persons are required to come with the following documents: a valid means of identification, proof of property or farmland ownership, BVN, NIN, and bank account details for verification and capturing.

The Controller emphasised that the ministry will only attend to persons from the following communities in the specified local government areas of Okobo, Nsit Atai, and Uruan: Adadia, Akpa Meri Ukim, Anakpa, Atai Odobo, Edik-Ikpa, Ekim Enen, Eweme, Ibete Ndon-Ebom, Ikot Asua, Ifiayong Usuk, Ikot Itie Udung, Ikot Obong, Ikot Abasi, Ikot Akan, Ikot Akpabio, Ikot Antia, Ikot Inyang, Ikot Inyang Esuk, Iwok Nsit, Ikot Otoinyie, Isa Okiuso, Issiet Ekim, Iwok Obio, Mbiakong, and Nda Ikot Apanuma.

Other affected communities include Ndon Ebom, Nkimenta, Nsie, Nsit Itie, Nung Atai, Nung Udom Odobo, Okorobo, Ufak Effiong, Usie Uruan, Uta Ukpong, and Ikot Ebok.

Okoduwa stated that the exercise, which commenced on December 1, 2025, will continue into the early part of 2026, urging affected landowners to avail themselves of the opportunity and complete the necessary steps to receive compensation.
