Police kill suspected armed robber, recover vehicle
Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have neutralised a suspected armed robber during a gun duel in Benin City.
The Command’s spokesperson, CSP Moses Yamu, said the suspect was killed during a robbery operation after police officers, acting on a distress call, mobilised to the scene with the support of local vigilantes.
He said the robbers opened fire upon sighting the security team, prompting a gun battle that led to the death of one yet-to-be-identified suspect, while others fled into the bush.
Items recovered from the scene include a Toyota Corolla with registration number BEN 149 BC, four mobile phones, three improvised explosive devices, and assorted charms.
Yamu added that efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing gang members.
