Getafe president Ángel Torres says the club is open to welcoming Nigerian midfielder Chrisantus Uche back into the team, as his loan deal to Crystal Palace is hitting the rocks, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The 22-year-old Nigerian midfielder joined Palace on loan from Getafe with a view to a permanent move, but he has struggled to make an impact at Selhurst Park.
He has only made four appearances in the English Premier League, and it appears Palace would be reluctant to trigger Uche’s €20m option of a permanent deal.
Speaking after receiving a lifetime achievement award on Monday, Torres told reporters, via Marca, that though the situation is still unfolding, they are open to welcoming Uche.
“Welcome if he returns,” the president said.
According to journalist Alan Nixon, Palace and the player are seeking a way to end the arrangement early.
“Crystal Palace are ready to let new boy Christantus Uche go back to Getafe in January,” Nixon reports via his Patreon as quoted by Molineux News.
Uche, who joined Palace on deadline day on loan with a conditional obligation to buy, has struggled to break into Oliver Glasner’s first team.
Before his loan move, he was already on song in the La Liga, scoring one and assisting another in three matches.
Torres, however, hinted that the club could also resell him if he picks up his form again in Spain.
“Bringing him back and selling him next year,” he added.
Reports in Spain in recent weeks have already floated the possibility of Uche cutting short his Premier League stay, with a January recall considered increasingly realistic.
