
Judicial council sends FCT chief register, 13 other names to Tinubu for judge appointment
The National Judicial Council (NJC) has forwarded the names of 14 lawyers to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointment as Judges of the Federal High Court.
At its 110th meeting, held on January 13 and 14, 2026, and chaired by Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun,Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), the Council decided to recommend 14 successful candidates to the President for confirmation as Federal High Court Judges.
In a statement issued Thursday evening, Kemi Babalola-Ogedengbe, NJC Deputy Director of Information explained that the Council had initially delayed submitting the names because the candidates’ security reports were not yet available.

The Council had resolved to await the completion of the security vetting before sending the nominees to the President. Following the receipt of the reports, which contained no adverse findings, the NJC officially forwarded the list to President Tinubu on Thursday, January 22, 2026.
The nominees include the incumbent Chief Registrar of the Federal High Court, Suleiman Amida Hassan.
The other recommended candidates are Muhammad Barau Saidu, Igboko Chinelo Conchita, Onuegbu Chioma Angela, Galumje Edingah, Ibrahim Vera Eneabo, Abubakar Musa Usman, and Salihu Aisha Yunusa.
The remaining candidates are Ikpeme Joy Bassey, Shehu Umaru Adamu, Mohammed Ibrahim Buba, Eigege-Binjin Nendelmum Judith, Usoro Kuyik Uduak, and Nwoye Osinachi Donatus.
