Kano sets up task force to boost security at motor parks, public spaces
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has approved the immediate establishment of a Special Task Force to strengthen security at motor parks and other strategic public spaces across the state.
The decision was announced in a statement signed on Sunday by Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, spokesperson to the Governor.
According to the statement, the move reflects the administration’s resolve to prevent criminal infiltration and safeguard lives and property, particularly at major entry and exit points within the Kano metropolis.
The move comes against the backdrop of recent security challenges in parts of Kano, including reported incidents of petty crime, suspected infiltration of motor parks by miscreants, and heightened security concerns around areas with heavy human and vehicular traffic.
In recent weeks, security agencies have intensified operations across the metropolis, leading to the arrest of several suspects, including those apprehended at the Kofar Ruwa Motor Park.
Motor parks were identified as high-risk locations due to the volume of daily movement and their strategic importance as transit hubs linking Kano to other parts of the country.
The Special Task Force is expected to conduct intensive surveillance, intelligence gathering and coordinated security operations at motor parks and other vulnerable areas. Its mandate will also extend to ancillary spaces such as filling stations and public places where transient populations frequently congregate.
Governor Yusuf described the initiative as a proactive step aimed at neutralising security threats before they escalate, strengthening inter-agency coordination and restoring public confidence in the state’s security architecture.
He reiterated his administration’s zero-tolerance stance on criminality and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing full support to security agencies to ensure the protection of lives and property across Kano State.
