You’re my good partner, Tinubu tells Shettima
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has described Vice President Kashim Shettima as “a very good partner on the journey for progress.”
He also reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to defeat terrorism and banditry, which he said are unacceptable and alien to Nigeria’s culture and values.
Tinubu made the remarks while declaring open the National Economic Council (NEC) Conference at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja, on Monday.
While taking the protocol of dignitaries, he referred to Shettima as “Distinguished Vice President and Chairman of the National Economic Council, Kashim Shettima, a very good partner on the journey for progress,” drawing applause from governors, ministers, senior government officials and private sector leaders in attendance.
Returning to his address, the President assured Nigerians of renewed efforts to strengthen security forces and restore peace in affected communities.
He also announced plans to roll out seven mechanisation zones to boost agricultural productivity.
He described insecurity as a major economic constraint and stressed the need for collective action to address it.
Welcoming participants to the two-day conference, the president said the gathering reflected a shared commitment to national progress.
Highlighting achievements of his administration, Tinubu said ongoing economic reforms had helped stabilise the economy and restore confidence globally.
He added that infrastructure development in transport, power, digital connectivity, housing and irrigation remains a priority.
Vice President Shettima called for deeper collaboration among the three tiers of government, describing NEC as a decisive forum for shaping Nigeria’s economic direction through consensus. He urged members to prioritise poverty reduction, job creation and fiscal sustainability.
