
Geidam appointed VC of Federal University Gashua
The Governing Council of the Federal University Gashua, Yobe State, has approved the appointment of Professor Yaqub Ahmed Geidam as the new Vice-Chancellor of the University.
This was contained in a statement signed by Mallam Adamu Saleh, Head Information and Protocol Unit of the University.
He said the decision was reached at a statutory meeting of the Governing Council presided over by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Barrister Ibrahim Usman, in strict compliance with the provisions of the Universities (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act and other relevant extant regulations.
He said the selection exercise was rigorous and merit-driven, with careful consideration given to academic excellence, leadership capacity, administrative competence, integrity, and a clear vision for the advancement of the University.
He noted that the appointment reflects the Governing Council’s commitment to due process and its resolve to position the University for sustained growth and global relevance.
The New Vice-Chancellor is a seasoned academic, administrator, and scholar of repute with several years of experience in teaching, research, and university administration.
He has been a professor of Veterinary Medicine for over two decades.
Prior to his appointment he served as the dean Faculty of veterinary medicine at the University of Maiduguri.
He has also held several key administrative positions.
The Pro-Chancellor further assured members of the university community and the general public that the Governing Council remains committed to strengthening institutional governance, promoting academic excellence, and ensuring stability and progress at the Federal University Gashua.
