Kano Assembly denies impeachment move against deputy governor
The Kano State House of Assembly has dismissed reports alleging an ongoing move to impeach Deputy Governor Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, describing the claims as unfounded and misleading.
Speaking to journalists in Kano on Saturday, the spokesperson to the Speaker of the House, Kamaluddeen Sani Shawai, said there is no discussion, motion, or initiative within the Assembly aimed at removing the deputy governor.
He stressed that the reports circulating in some sections of the media were inaccurate and risked creating unnecessary political tension in the state.
“There is absolutely no basis for these claims. The House has not initiated, nor is it considering, any impeachment process against the deputy governor. The reports are false and should be disregarded by the public.”
He added that the deputy governor continues to carry out his responsibilities with the confidence and support of the legislature, contrary to the speculation being circulated.
Shawai urged media organisations and the public to exercise caution and verify information before dissemination, noting that responsible reporting plays a critical role in preserving political stability and public trust.
According to him, the Assembly remains focused on its constitutional responsibilities, including lawmaking and oversight, rather than engaging in speculative political narratives.
“Our priority is good governance and effective service delivery to the people of Kano State. We are not distracted by rumours or unsubstantiated claims,” he said.
Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, has not publicly responded to the reports.
However, sources confirmed that he remains fully engaged in official duties.
