Edo security corps arrests 2 over motorcycles’ theft
Operatives of the Edo State Security Corps have arrested a two-man syndicate allegedly specialised in stealing motorcycles from Benin City and transporting them to Lagos for sale.
The suspects, identified as Adams Hameed and Michael Ikechukwu, are residents of Lagos but reportedly travel to Benin City regularly to steal motorcycles.
It was gathered that they have established a network of standby buyers in Lagos who purchase the stolen motorcycles on arrival.
The duo had allegedly travelled to Benin City two weeks ago and hired a commercial motorcyclist to convey them to the Oluku area. On getting there, they reportedly dispossessed the rider of his motorcycle and took it to Lagos, where they sold it for N200,000 before returning for yet another operation.
They were, however, arrested after the owner of the first stolen motorcycle sighted them at a petrol station while they were refuelling another stolen bike for onward movement to Lagos.
He immediately raised the alarm. Operatives of the Corps on routine patrol responded swiftly and apprehended the suspects.
The Corps’ Deputy Commander, Operations, Richard Balogun, who confirmed the incident, said the suspects have since been handed over to the police for further investigation and prosecution.
