Only death can separate me from golf – Oyinlola
Former Governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, has reaffirmed his lifelong commitment to golf, declaring that only death can separate him from the game, as he pledged to continue playing and investing in golf and other sporting activities for as long as he lives.
Oyinlola made the declaration at the weekend during a commemorative golf tournament organised in his honour to mark his 75th birthday at the Ile-Ogbo Golf Course and Resort and LanreLeke Sports Academy, Ile-Ogbo, Osun State. The event was powered by Engineer Olanrewaju Adeleke, founder of LanreLeke Sports Academy.
Expressing deep satisfaction with the growth of golf in Osun State, the former governor described the establishment of the golf course as a major motivation for sports enthusiasts across the state.
“I am happy that I belong to the golf family and only death can come between me and the game. That is why I must sincerely appreciate the founder of LanreLeke Sports Academy and Ile-Ogbo Golf Course for bringing this facility here to our dear state. Through this, he has further motivated many who are golfers and sports enthusiasts,” Oyinlola said.
He also appreciated Adeleke for organising the tournament in celebration of his birthday. “I also want to appreciate him for celebrating my birthday with a golf tournament, and he has promised to continue with this. No doubt, he is a kind man. I thank him for citing this here. I am optimistic that this edifice will eventually produce world stars in the world of golf.”
Beyond sports, Oyinlola used the occasion to call for peace, unity and collective responsibility among Nigerians, stressing that national development requires the cooperation of all.
Earlier, Adeleke described Oyinlola as a shining light and symbol of golf in Nigeria, praising his immense contributions to sports development in Osun State and beyond. He unveiled plans to transform the golf course into a world-class tourist destination, noting that a 10-year development plan was already underway.
The event attracted dignitaries and golfers from across the country, who hailed Oyinlola as a beacon of hope and inspiration to both young and old.
