SaharaReporters gathered that the attack occurred between 7:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 3, 2026.
Terrorists have attacked Idofin community in the Yagba East Local Government Area of Kogi State, killing one person and leaving another injured.
SaharaReporters gathered that the attack occurred between 7:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 3, 2026.
Meanwhile, the deceased was identified as a Tiv man, while another indigene of the community sustained serious injuries during the assault.
According to a local platform, Egbe Mekun, the injured victim was later evacuated by military personnel and taken to an undisclosed hospital for medical treatment.
As of the time of filing this report, the Kogi State Government and the Nigerian Police had yet to issue any statement regarding the incident.
However, residents have continued to express fear over the recurring security challenges in the area, calling on the Kogi State Government and security authorities to beef up security in Yagba East and surrounding communities to prevent further attacks.
SaharaReporters previously reported that Ayetoro-Kiri community in Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State had been thrown into deep mourning following the confirmation of three deaths among abducted residents, even after a painful ransom was raised and paid through communal contributions.
SaharaReporters gathered that although seven abductees were eventually released by the kidnappers, three of them were already dead on arrival, while four others were taken to the hospitalize, where they are battling for their lives.
Meanwhile, about 30 residents of the community were still being held captive by bandits, with their fate remaining uncertain.
In a statement signed by the community’s spokesperson, David Ampitan, and obtained by SaharaReporters, the community lamented that instead of taking decisive steps to protect lives, rescue abducted victims, or pursue the perpetrators, authorities allegedly turned against the people.
According to the statement, the Kogi State Government, acting through the Chairman of Kabba-Bunu Local Government, responded to the community’s outcry by tear-gassing and arresting peaceful protesters who were demanding security, justice, and the rescue of their kidnapped relatives.
