CJN Kekere-Ekun to swear in new Supreme Court justice Oyewole
Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, Chief Justice of Nigeria, will on Wednesday, 25 February 2026, swear in the newly appointed Justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Joseph Olubunmi Kayode Oyewole.
The swearing-in ceremony will take place at Courtroom Two of the Supreme Court complex in Abuja at 2pm.
The apex court has recently experienced a reduction in its bench following the retirement of several justices who reached the mandatory retirement age.
Before his elevation to the Supreme Court, Justice Oyewole served as a Justice of the Court of Appeal and as the Presiding Justice of the Enugu Division.
His appointment is seen as a reflection of the judiciary’s commitment to strengthening the bench with experienced and dedicated jurists, while upholding the rule of law and delivering justice.

The statement added that the inauguration represents a further step in revitalising the judiciary and ensuring the administration of justice according to the highest standards of integrity, competence, and impartiality.
Akande also reminded invited guests to observe the court’s protocols and security measures strictly.
“The Supreme Court of Nigeria remains committed to the principles of justice, fairness, and judicial independence for the benefit of all Nigerians,” the statement concluded.
