The federal government has said that its project: “Livelihood Improvement Family Enterprise-Niger Delta (Life-ND)”, in partnership with the International Fund for Agricultural Development, has injected ₦31.35 billion into rural economies in the Niger Delta.
Speaking at the national event on “Scaling Up Youth Agripreneurship for Food-Systems Transformation” under the LIFE-ND project yesterday in Abuja, the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Dr Marcus O. Ogunbiyi, said the project had also created 23,751 new jobs, including 12,526 for women, and contributed 122,332 metric tonnes of food to Nigeria’s supply.
“This is a national effort requiring synergy across sectors, our approach integrates agriculture, regional development, gender inclusion, youth empowerment and development financing to achieve sustainable results,” Dr Ogunbiyi said.
In his keynote address, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, praised the innovation demonstrated by young agripreneurs across the country.
The minister described LIFE-ND’s incubation model as skills training, mentorship, digital tools and market linkages as a shift from mere training to enterprise development, urging stakeholders to engage and commit to actionable outcomes.
“Our young people, fueled by ingenuity and determination, are taking the lead in agrifood innovation from precision agriculture to AI-powered tools, digital marketplaces and agro-processing. They are ready to create dignified livelihoods and drive inclusive economic growth in our dear nation,” the minister said.
The National Project Coordinator, Livelihood Improvement Family Enterprises – Niger Delta, Dr Abiodun Sanni, said that the LIFE-ND Project had demonstrated that with the right model, Nigeria could convert its youthful population from job seekers to agripreneurial wealth creators capable of transforming the nation’s food system.
“We are confident that with sustained commitment, expanded partnerships and the scaling strategies presented, LIFE-ND will evolve into a national model for agricultural prosperity, food security and economic resilience,” he said.
