Ooni of Ife backs Canada–Africa summit

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, has formally endorsed his interest and participation in a major international real estate, tourism and hospitality initiative aimed at strengthening Africa–Canada bilateral relations.

The Canada-Africa Real Estate, Tourism & Hospitality Exchange (CARTHE) is scheduled for May 17–24, 2026, at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Toronto Airport West in Ontario, Canada.

CARTHE is organised by Get Elevated Inc., a Canada-based media and business network, in partnership with Perfection Real Estate Group of Nigeria.

According to the organisers, the platform is designed to bring together 100 senior executives, policymakers and industry leaders from across Africa.

In a statement on Sunday, Get Elevated Inc. said the exchange will “provide industry professionals with access to expert insights, global best practices, partnership opportunities, and deeper engagement with the Canadian counterpart in the selected industries.”

It also stated that participants will also be exposed to urban development models in “fast-growing multicultural cities like Mississauga and Brampton.”

Get Elevated Inc., which publishes AfroCaribe Magazine, said the forthcoming exchange is designed to “empower African leaders to shape the future of real estate and tourism across the continent.”

As part of its build-up to the 2026 event, the statement said thr two organising companies will host a pre-event awards ceremony in Nigeria on February 12, 2026, adding that the ceremony will celebrate individuals whose work has contributed to national and continental development.

It said the Ooni will be honoured as the first Peace Ambassador Award recipient and described the monarch’s endorsement as highly symbolic.

“The Ooni’s support is significant because it signals strong traditional and socio-cultural backing for the Canada-Africa partnership,”the statement said.

The organisers also addressed recent public concerns over controversies in Nigeria’s real estate sector.

“This initiative is not a response to any specific event in Lagos. It tackles widespread issues affecting investors across Nigeria, Africa and the diaspora—real estate scams, project delays, fraudulent documentation, lack of due diligence and poor regulatory compliance,” it stated.

According to the organisers, the Canada-Africa Exchange aims to equip participants with frameworks and knowledge that will “reduce these risks while promoting credibility, innovation and safer investment pathways.”

Organisers noted that many stakeholders consider the initiative “timely and strategic.”

They described the 2026 edition as the pilot phase that will open long-term opportunities between Africa and Canada across real estate, tourism and hospitality.
