2 dead, 10 injured as truck loses control along Dutse-Bwari road
Two people lost their lives and at least 10 others were injured Tuesday morning following an accident involving an articulated truck near the Tipper Garage area along the Dutse-Bwari highway in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The FCT Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Felix Theman, confirmed the incident to Abuja Metro, noting that the crash occurred at approximately 8:47 am. The Commander explained that both of the deceased were adult females.
According to him, the injured included seven males and one female. One victim died at the scene, while the second died later at the Kubwa General Hospital, where all victims had been rushed for treatment.
A source at the hospital told our reporter that most of the survivors remain in critical condition. In a statement released later in the day and shared with Abuja Metro, the FRSC attributed the cause of the accident to brake failure. The statement noted that the truck was traveling from the direction of Usuma Dam in the Bwari axis toward Dutse-Alhaji.
An eyewitness, Ose Idahosa, said the truck directly hit two vehicles waiting at a traffic light, as well as four commercial tricycles parked near the junction to pick up or drop off passengers. He noted that the affected lane was closed for nearly an hour while officials cleared the wreckage and the truck’s cargo, which consisted of plastic containers.
