Amid defection, rift speculation, Kano dep gov felicitates Yusuf, Kwankwaso
Amid speculation over an alleged rift fuelled by looming defections that have thrown followers of the Kwankwasiyya movement into confusion, the Kano State Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, has extended New Year felicitations to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, the national leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and the people of Kano State.
The message, marking the New Year 2026, comes at a time when political tensions are rising within the NNPP in Kano, with party loyalists reportedly taking sides between Kwankwaso and Yusuf over speculations of an imminent defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Gwarzo, who is away in Saudi Arabia to perform the lesser Hajj as the political drama unfolded in the state, is believed to be central to the rift having reportedly taking sides with Kwankwaso.
In his New Year message, issued and signed by his press secretary, Ibrahim Garba Shuaibu, the deputy governor expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah for the gift of life and the opportunity to witness another year of peace and progress.
He commended Governor Yusuf for what he described as visionary leadership, dedication to the welfare of citizens, and sustained efforts to restore Kano State’s pride and dignity through people-oriented policies and development projects.
Gwarzo also praised Senator Kwankwaso for his enduring mentorship, political wisdom and fatherly guidance, which he said have continued to inspire a new generation of leaders committed to public service and national development.
The deputy governor reaffirmed the commitment of the present administration to deepening good governance, strengthening grassroots development and ensuring equitable growth across all sectors of the state.
He urged the people of Kano to remain steadfast, law-abiding and supportive of the government’s ongoing initiatives aimed at transforming the state.
Gwarzo prayed for a peaceful and prosperous New Year filled with unity, progress and blessings for the people of Kano State and Nigeria at large.
