Lagos driver arrested for stabbing traffic officer
A yet-to-be-identified commercial bus driver was arrested in the Ojota area of Lagos on Sunday morning for allegedly stabbing an official of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA). The attack occurred after the driver was apprehended for a serious traffic offence.
The driver was operating a yellow Caravelle GL Volkswagen commercial bus, with registration number EKY 693 YK, and was allegedly driving with the passenger doors open.
When confronted by the LASTMA officer, the driver attempted to flee with the vehicle.
Frustrated that he could not escape, the driver allegedly grabbed a bottle and stabbed one of the officers.
Witnesses reported that, in a further attempt to evade arrest, the driver stripped himself half-naked, causing a commotion before he was eventually subdued and arrested by LASTMA officials.
The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, confirmed that the incident occurred at the Ojota Interchange.
