Bauchi partners NEDC to stabilise North East
Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has said that the state remains committed to working with other states and the North East Development Commission (NEDC) to unite and stabilise the North East, promote economic recovery and deepen regional integration.
The governor stated this during the commissioning of the Bauchi State office of NEDC and mega schools constructed by the Commission at Dungal village in Bauchi Local Government Area.
Represented by the deputy governor, Auwal Jatau Mohammed, the governor said that the commissioning of the Bauchi office is a milestone that deserves to be commended and celebrated.
Mohammed said the construction of a mega school, which is one among many others, “which also holds today, is a testimony to the commitment of the Commission to ensure access to qualitative education by our children, irrespective of their socio-economic background.
“I believe that this initiative is informed by the fact that education serves as the bedrock of development of any society. Any society that neglects education, therefore, does so to the detriment of its progress and development.”
While commending the Commission for embarking on such projects across the North East geopolitical zone, he said,
“I want to assure the Honourable Minister, the board and management of the unwavering commitment of the Bauchi State Government to continuously support and partner with the Commission towards the realisation of its noble objectives.”
The governor noted that the interventions of the NEDC have complemented the efforts of the state government and accelerated progress in the development of critical sectors of the economy.
Earlier in his remarks, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of NEDC, Mohammed Goni Alkali, disclosed that the Commission is building three mega schools in the three geopolitical zones of the state.
Alkali explained that each of the mega schools consists of an administrative block, 12 classrooms, two 100-bed capacity hostels, two 3-bedroom staff quarters, and eight 2-bedroom staff quarters.
He added that other facilities included a 50-student capacity ICT centre, 130 students capacity library, a laboratory, a perimeter fence and gate, a water supply, among others.
