Gunmen abduct 11 farmers in Southern Kaduna
Tension has gripped Ungwan Nungu community in Bokana Ward, Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State, following the abduction of 11 residents by gunmen on Saturday as they returned from their farms.
Residents said the victims were accosted along a bush path in the evening and taken away to an unknown destination.
The incident triggered anxiety across neighbouring villages, with many families spending the night in fear and uncertainty over the fate of their loved ones.
A resident, who asked not to be named, told our reporter that some of those abducted were teenagers gathering beans when the attackers struck.
“About 15 people were initially targeted. Some managed to escape, while others were released unconditionally. However, 11 remain in captivity, and the kidnappers are demanding a ransom of five million naira,” he said.
Confirming the incident in a statement on Tuesday, the member representing Jema’a/Sanga Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Daniel Amos, described the attack as “cruel and senseless,” condemning the targeting of innocent villagers.
“I strongly condemn this act. Targeting peaceful community members is unacceptable and must not be tolerated under any circumstance,” he said.
Hon. Amos urged residents of Ungwan Nungu, Bokana Ward and surrounding communities to remain calm, vigilant and law-abiding, cautioning that panic or resorting to self-help could escalate tensions.
He also called on security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue the victims and apprehend the perpetrators.
“We expect intensified surveillance, intelligence-driven operations, and a swift, coordinated response that reassures our people of their safety,” he added.
