
Bayelsa to begin power distribution soon – Govt
Bayelsa State Government has assured residents of the state that the ongoing Independent Power Supply Project will soon commence power distribution to ensure constant power supply in the state.
The state government is currently installing a 60 megawatts gas turbine to help solve the challenge of epileptic power supply.
The State Commissioner for Information, Orientation and Strategy, Hon. Ebiowu Koku-Obiyai, who stated this during the monthly Transparency Briefing in Yenagoa, explained that there is no specific completion date for the project, adding that only the technical aspects of the installation remain.
She said the project will be completed at any time, appealing for patience and encouraging Bayelsans to visit the project site to assess the level of work already done.
She said: “The Gas Turbine has reached a critical stage of installation and commissioning. This is one project that is dear to the state and we believe that in a matter of days and few weeks, we will see light everywhere.
“The government has been working tirelessly to diversify the state’s economy. We have made serious investments in Agriculture, blue economy and marine transport.”
Also Speaking, the Technical Adviser to the governor on Account and Treasury, Mr. Timinipre Seipulo, said the government has already spent over N140 billion for capital projects between the month of October to December 2025 to fulfill the government commitment to the people in the area of infrastructures.
He disclosed that the state also has the leftover of over N45 billion as of the end of December 2025, despite the deficits it has in November.
He added that the state received over N192 billion between the months of October to December 2025 from the Federal Allocation Account Committee (FAAC), while the Internally Generated Revenue for the three months amounted to over N11 billion.
