PHOTOS: Police hand over 161kg of seized drugs in Bauchi to NDLEA

The Bauchi State Police Command on Friday handed over 161 kilograms of illicit drugs recovered from a suspected narcotics dealer to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.

Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, said the Command had worked tirelessly to improve policing standards, achieving significant successes in the fight against crime.

Aliyu disclosed that operatives arrested one Ogbu Simon, a suspected drug dealer, and recovered illicit substances with an estimated street value of N12.2 million.

He explained that on November 26, 2025, following credible intelligence from a concerned citizen, operatives from the Ningi Divisional Police Headquarters responded to reports of suspicious sacks being offloaded at a shop owned by Simon.

According to Aliyu, Simon had been supplying narcotics from Onitsha, Anambra State, to communities in Ningi Local Government Area and its environs.

“In response to this intelligence, a team of detectives led by the DPO of Ningi, CSP Surajo Ibrahim Birnin Kudu, executed a strategic raid on the shop in Ningi town,” he said.

The operation resulted in the seizure of four bags containing suspected Diazepam (D5) and Tramadol tablets. The Operation Restore Peace (ORP) unit then conducted a comprehensive investigation, leading to Simon’s arrest.

Aliyu added that Simon confessed to supplying drugs to various markets within and beyond Ningi. He urged residents to remain calm and continue supporting security agencies in combating crime, assuring that the Command would uphold its constitutional duty of protecting lives and property.

“The suspect, alongside the exhibit, is hereby handed over to the NDLEA Bauchi for further investigation and diligent prosecution,” he said.

Receiving the substances, NDLEA Deputy State Commander Hussaini Ummaru confirmed their receipt and said the agency would carry out a thorough investigation. He commended the police for the strong partnership and called on community members to continue providing credible intelligence to support security operations.
