A retired Major General and former Commander of the Joint Task Force Operation Pulo Shield in the Niger Delta, Emmanuel Jebe Atewe (retd), on Sunday, applauded President Bola Tinubu’s appointment of ex-Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, as Minister of Defence, describing it as a strategic and patriotic move.
In a statement issued in Abuja, the retired senior officer commended the President for what he called “one of the most consequential security appointments in recent years,” insisting that Musa’s wealth of operational experience made him the right fit for the job.
“General Musa is an outstanding officer whose capacity has been tested across theatres of operation. His appointment reflects the President’s commitment to strengthening national security with men of proven integrity, competence, and courage.
“I congratulate him wholeheartedly and wish him a tenure marked by stability, innovation, and lasting peace,” Atewe said.
The ex-general expressed confidence that the new minister would deploy his trademark discipline and strategic clarity to address Nigeria’s evolving security threats.
“This choice demonstrates the President’s deep understanding of the security landscape and his readiness to consolidate gains made so far. The nation will benefit immensely from General Musa’s vision and experience,” he added.
Atewe’s congratulatory message came two days after Musa officially assumed duty at the Ministry of Defence headquarters in Ship House, Abuja.
The former CDS was appointed by President Tinubu following the resignation of ex-minister Mohammed Badaru and was confirmed by the Senate last Thursday.
Musa, who served as Chief of Defence Staff between 2023 and 2025, is widely regarded as a firm and innovative military leader.
His elevation to Defence Minister has been welcomed across security circles, with expectations that he will further strengthen defence operations and consolidate ongoing reforms.
