The Isale-Eko Descendants Union has launched its 2025 Community Wellness Outreach, offering free health screening to residents of all ages in Isale Eko.
In a statement on Thursday, the group said the initiative formed part of its ongoing efforts to promote healthier living across the community.
The outreach, organised in partnership with Iyewo Health, includes vital checks, screening for communicable diseases, and clean water distribution, as well as health and safety education.
Speaking at the Isale-Eko Day 2025 Community Wellness Outreach held at Isale Eko House, Iga Idungaran Street, IDU Chairman Adeniji Kazeem (SAN) said sustained collaboration, shared knowledge and community support remained critical to building “a healthy and supportive environment where residents can thrive.”
According to the statement, Kazeem stressed the importance of preventive healthcare, noting that “many illnesses can be effectively managed or completely avoided through early detection and prompt treatment.”
He urged residents to take full advantage of the free screening, describing it as “a vital step” towards safeguarding their health.
Kazeem also highlighted the essential role of clean water and sanitation, saying, “It is a basic right, but one that is often taken for granted.
“Our water outreach programme is aimed at bridging this gap, and I’m glad we’re able to provide this service to you today.”
Reaffirming the significance of Isale-Eko Day, he described the community as one that “has produced many prominent figures and remains deeply rooted in rich cultural heritage.”
He explained that the annual celebration was created to honour the people and preserve their legacy by reuniting sons, daughters and well-wishers.
After a one-to-two-year break, he said the event had returned “with renewed energy and vibrancy,” beginning with the wellness outreach and continuing with the community walk scheduled for December 14, 2025.
“As a union, we have always believed that the well-being of our community is paramount.
“We are not just about serving our members but also about giving back to the community that has supported us over the years,” Kazeem noted.
Also speaking, Khadijah Okunnu-Lamidi, who represented Water Relief NG, said the organisation had, in recent months, remained committed to delivering sustainable water solutions across the priority sites identified by IDU through its corporate social responsibility initiative.
With support from the Lagos Internal Revenue Service, she said five critical water points had been fully upgraded, providing safe and reliable access to clean water for households and local businesses.
Okunnu-Lamidi noted, however, that while the milestone was worth celebrating, broader challenges remained.
She said efficient community service delivery depended on the availability of affordable, locally produced water tanks, a goal that requires deliberate government support for local manufacturers.
Without accessible infrastructure, she warned, “scaling up interventions becomes costly, and without scale, many communities will continue to remain underserved.”
