
Kogi ethnic community laments over Poor leadership, infrastructure decay
The Bassa-Nge kingdom in Bassa Local Government Area of Kogi State has identified poor leadership as one of the challenges bedeviling the development of the area for several decades.
The stakeholders of the Bassa-Nge ethnic extractions disclosed this yesterday during the 40th day prayers in honour of their late paramount ruler , (HRH) Brigadier General Abu Ali (Rtd) at Gboloko, the headquarters of the kingdom.
The Makama- Daniya of Bassa-Nge Kingdom, M.B Abdullahi said the occasion marked an important milestone in the journey of the newly incorporated Bassa-Nge Progressive Union(BPU), as he extolled the virtue of the late paramount traditional ruler.
He called for Unity and collaborative efforts by all sons and daughters of Bassa-Nge kingdom to fastrack development in the land.
Other stakeholders, Dr. Abdulmumini Yakubu and Chief Julius Elukpo say the late traditional ruler had worked tirelessly for the unity, progress and development of the land during his life time, urging their kinsmen to imbibe his ideals in their development plan.
However, the stakeholders called on the federal and state government to update infrastructure gap in the area, particularly the construction of the Shintaku-Gboloko-Oguma road that links the community to other parts of the state .
They said the road has been in bad state for decades, stressing that it sad condition had affected the economic and social lives of the people in the community for years .
While unveiling the union, M.B Abdullahi, Makama- Daniya of Bassa-Nge Kingdom called for Unity and collaborative efforts by sons and daughters of Bassa-Nge kingdom to fastrack development in the land.
He said : “We have gathered not only to celebrate Unity, but to lay a solid foundation for progress, accountability and purposeful leadership that will accelerate development in our land”.
Also, the Kakaki of Bassa-Nge kingdom, Jacob Edi stressed that the union has developed a strategic development plan for next 200 years that will change the situation of the nation for better in next couple of years .
“The birth of the Union is to harmonize all previous contending forces, and forge a common front. This, we believe will bring about accelerated development of the kingdom.
“Our late paramount traditional ruler, (HRH), Brigadier General Abu Ali ( Rtd) has always advocated a platform that can champion the course of the land , and that is what we are having today”, he said.
The highlight of the occasion was the presentation of papers by stakeholders, Dr. Yahaya Ndako, Dr Abdulmumini Yakubu Umar and Chief Julius Elukpo and formal unveiling of Bassa -Nge Progressive Union.
The interim President of the Union, Dr. Yahaya Ndako promised to work with his team for the progress and development of the Kingdom, saying, “we cannot afford to fail our people.
HRH, Brigadier General Abu Ali,(rtd),the paramount traditional ruler of Bass-Nge kingdom passed away on November 24, 2025, at the age of 79, due to complications resulting from old age. He was laid to rest with full military honours in Gboloko, the headquarters of the ethnic nation.
