Court halts resident doctors’ planned strike
A National Industrial Court of Nigeria in Abuja has issued an interim injunction restraining the planned strike by the Nigeria Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) planned for Monday, January 12.
Justice E. D. Subilim on Friday also restrained the President of the resident doctors, Dr Mohammad Usman Suleiman and the secretary, Dr Shuaibu Ibrahim.
The judge halted any move by the association “Calling, directing, organizing, participating in or embarking upon any form of industrial action, including but not limited to strikes, work stoppages, go-slows, picketing or any other form of industrial protest or disruption.
“Taking steps preparatory to or in furtherance of any industrial action, from the 12th January, 2026, until the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.”
The judge ruled that the order shall remain in force pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice, which is fixed for January 21.
The judge further directs the service of the court papers on the defendants (NARD) within seven days, while the association shall be at liberty to apply to discharge or vary the order within seven days after service.
The order followed an application by the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Attorney General of the Federation seeking to stop the planned strike to prevent crippling of healthcare services in public hospitals.
The resident doctors are pushing to commence the strike on Monday, January 12 due to persistent unmet demands, including unpaid salary arrears (like the 25/35 percent of the CONMESS review), unpaid allowances (hazard, accoutrement), shortage of manpower, poor working conditions, non-payment of the Medical Residency Training Fund (MRTF), and failure to implement agreements, among other issues.
Nigerians can now invest ₦2.5 million on premium domains and profit about ₦17-₦25 million. All earnings paid in US Dollars. Rather than wonder, click here to find out how it works.
