Delta LG councillors sack leader, deputy
Kindly share this story:
The Oshimili North Legislative Arm in Delta State was thrown into crisis on Friday as its leader, Mr Chris Nwamgbor, and his deputy, Augustina Odogwu, were impeached for alleged gross misconduct.
Following the impeachment, the Chief Whip, Jeffery Mordi, was appointed as the new leader of the legislative arm.
The impeachment followed a motion moved by Mordi, with the House invoking Section 92, Subsection 2C of the 1999 Constitution in its resolution.
Reacting to the development, Nwamgbor described the impeachment as an act of desperation, alleging procedural irregularities.
“You want to impeach a leader, you came with thugs. I was beaten up and the mace was not there. The Clerk was forced to do what was not right because you want to be leader at all cost,” he said.
In response, Mordi denied bringing thugs to the council, insisting that Nwamgbor was responsible for the unrest and that due process was followed.
“We are 20 councillors; we impeached two. Sixteen signed and the letter and paper were presented, so I don’t know the due process they are looking for again.
“I personally moved the motion and somebody seconded the motion. The mace was present when the motion was moved and we were in our normal legislative session,” Mordi said.
