Dalung: Politically, Tinubu is a dwarf when Compared with Sardauna, Awolowo
Former Sports Minister, Solomon Dalung, has described President Bola Tinubu as a “dwarf” in Nigeria’s political history, insisting the president’s leadership falls short of the nation’s historical icons.
Dalung served as minister from 2015 to 2019 under the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Speaking on Channels Television, Dalung questioned Tinubu’s ability to convert political strategy into tangible results for Nigerians.
Asked whether Tinubu could be defeated in the 2027 presidential election, given his reputation as a political heavyweight, Dalung challenged the notion.
“If Tinubu is truly a maverick strategist, his actions should reflect in the nation’s economy and security,” he said.
“Leadership is not about reputation; it is about results. Unfortunately, he has not replicated his Lagos governance successes on the national stage.”
Dalung argued that great leaders leave legacies that benefit the people, citing Sardauna Ahmadu Bello and Obafemi Awolowo as benchmarks.
“Tinubu is a dwarf in Nigerian political history; he should not be compared with great leaders like Sardauna and Awolowo. Tinubu cannot be compared with leaders of such caliber,” he said.
He criticized the president’s handling of insecurity, the economy, and social welfare initiatives.
“His strategies should be seen in performance, not in failure. The economy is struggling, corruption is flourishing, and the people are yet to feel the impact of his policies,” Dalung stated.
Highlighting the African Democratic Congress (ADC)’s preparedness for 2027, he said the party is ready to present a credible challenge.
“We have many capable individuals to challenge Tinubu. Our primaries will be transparent, and whoever emerges will have the full backing of the party to contest in 2027,” he said.
He stressed that the forthcoming election is an opportunity to test Nigeria’s democratic resilience and leadership choices.
