Governor Adeleke finally Dumps PDP
Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has formally announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The decision, conveyed in a resignation letter submitted on 4th November 2025, follows what he described as the current crisis within the national leadership of the PDP.
The governor shared the letter on his social media page thus ending speculation about the platform he would use to contest the 2026 Osun governorship election.
The governor would be running for another term in office.
Daily Trust reports that Adeleke had boycotted the convention of the PDP held in Ibadan, Oyo State, as the party battles high-profile defections to the ruling party and the opposition coalition , the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Providing context, Governor Adeleke noted that the growing leadership instability at the national level of PDP has made continued membership untenable.
As a result, he officially notified the party leadership in Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2, Ede North Local Government, of his withdrawal from the party.
In his statement, Governor Adeleke expressed gratitude to the PDP, acknowledging the significant role the party played in his political ascent. He thanked party leaders, members, and supporters for giving him the platform that led to his election first as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and later as the Governor of Osun State.
According to him, the decision, though difficult, was made in the interest of political clarity and effective governance amid ongoing national-level challenges within the party.
It is however unclear which platform the governor would be using to contest for second term.
Speculations have been rife over his possible defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) while it was also reported that the governor may pitch tent with Accord Party.
The Chairman of the PDP in Osun State, Sunday Bisi, had said the leadership crisis at the national level had crippled preparations and thrown the planned primary into uncertainty, saying he was not sure the governor was still interested in the contesting the party’s gubernatorial ticket.
The primary election was scheduled for today and Adeleke was the only one who purchased the form for the election which has now been put on hold.
