Lakurawa terrorists Kill 3 Immigration Officers in Kebbi
From Ismail Adebayo Birnin kebbi
Three officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service have been killed by Lakurawa terrorists at a checkpoint in Bakin Ruwa, along the Maje border in Bagudo Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The attack, it was gathered, happened around midnight on Wednesday.
It would be recalled that two weeks ago, a customs officer was killed by the terrorist group at that same location near the Nigeria-Benin Republic border at Maje in Bagudo area of the state.
Multiple local sources told our correspondent that the terrorists invaded the Immigration point unexpectedly and opened fire on the officers on duty. Three officers were killed on the spot and their bodies set on fire.
The recent incident is raising concerns over escalating insecurity along the Nigeria–Benin border corridor in Bagudo just as Nigeria and Benin Republic some weeks ago signed a joint border security agreement to curb attacks on customs and immigration personnel at the border area.
A security source, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed the attack, adding that the terrorist group fled into the nearby bush afterwards.
The Lakurawa gang has been linked to several violent incidents across parts of Kebbi State, targeting both security personnel and civilians. Their motive for this latest assault remains unclear, but security authorities say investigations are ongoing.
When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the State Police Command, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, confirmed the incident but noted that details were still sketchy.
