New monarch vows to fight drug abuse, insecurity

The traditional ruler of the Mbaocha automous community in Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia, Eze Redford Ikechi Ohaeri, has vowed to fight drugs abuse among youths in the community to reduce insecurity.

Eze  Ohaeri, whose emergence ended a six year kingship tussle in the community, spoke in an exclusive chat with South East PUNCH on Saturday, saying he would work to unite the community to promote peace, unity and love.

He said, “I strongly believe that in a community where there is no love, where there is no peace, where there is no unity, you cannot have progress. The first promise I will make is to ensure that all factions, all polarized groups in the community are brought together and get back on track and be focused to pursue one agenda. Which is to Peace.

“And then, my next promise to our people is that because of the current trend of insecurity that is everywhere, I want to join hands with the current government to ensure that we have a secure environment.

“There is another thing that is germane in my mind that I need to do and that is addressing the issue of drug abuse in our community.

I regularly observe that this menace has eaten deep into our youths.

“We have them in uncompleted buildings to smoke and take drugs. I think I’m going to bring the menace to an end.

“We are going to put a stop and make sure that we use relevant authorities. We will start by preaching and talking to them.

“We will also apply limited force to ensure that the menace is terminated. Again, there is one thing I observe that people are grabbing community land, selling and doing all sorts of things; that will come to an end too”.

The royal father also promised to tackle the menace of flooding and erosion in the community by mobilizing residents to do remedial and maintenance of community roads.

“And in areas where we cannot carry it alone, I will speak to the authorities to help us”.
