The Nasarawa State Police Command has deployed no fewer than 2,231 officers to various public places across the state as part of measures to ensure the safety of lives and property during the Yuletide season.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, Ramhan Nansel, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday.
According to Nansel, the deployment cuts across various police formations in the state and is aimed at securing areas where large gatherings are expected during the festive period.
He stated, “The Nasarawa State Police Command has deployed a total of 2,231 police personnel across the state as part of a comprehensive security arrangement to ensure the protection of lives and property before, during and after the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
“The deployment, which cuts across all police formations in the state, is designed to provide adequate security coverage at places of worship, recreational centres, markets, motor parks, highways and other public areas where large gatherings are expected during the festive period.”
He added that the Commissioner of Police, Shetima Mohammed, had directed the deployed officers to intensify visible policing, round-the-clock patrols and stop-and-search operations, while ensuring a swift response to any security threats.
“Special attention is being given to identified flashpoints, black spots and border communities. Additionally, traffic personnel have been strategically deployed to ensure the free flow of vehicular movement across the state and to minimise road congestion throughout the celebrations.
“The command reassures members of the public of its unwavering commitment to maintaining a peaceful, safe and crime-free environment.
“Residents are urged to remain law-abiding, vigilant and cooperative with security operatives. Members of the public are also encouraged to promptly report any suspicious movements or activities to the nearest police station,” Nansel stated.
