NNPP NWC nullifies ‘suspension’ of Kano chair

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has nullified the purported suspension of its Kano State chairman, Alhaji Hashimu Dungurawa, describing the action as illegal, undemocratic and of no effect.

In a statement issued from the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, the NNPP said the move, allegedly carried out by some executive members of the party in Gargari Ward, Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area of Kano State, violated the provisions of the party’s constitution.

The statement, signed by the NNPP National Publicity Secretary, Ladipo Johnson, said the NWC condemned the action “in the strongest terms”, stressing that ward executives lacked the constitutional authority to suspend or remove a state chairman.

According to the party, the action amounted to gross anti-party conduct, as it contravened established provisions of the NNPP constitution on discipline and party hierarchy.

The NWC also commended Dungurawa’s leadership, describing him as conscientious, hardworking and dutiful. It said his stewardship had contributed significantly to the growth and consolidation of the party in Kano State and should not be undermined by what it termed “questionable actions” at the ward level.

The development comes amid rising internal tensions within the NNPP in Kano, following conflicting claims over party leadership and speculations about possible political realignments ahead of future elections.

The party leadership urged members to adhere strictly to the NNPP constitution, respect internal democratic processes and refrain from actions capable of causing disunity within the party.
