
DisCos record N44.2bn revenue shortfall in October 2025
Electricity distribution companies (DisCos) in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry recorded a staggering N44.2 billion revenue shortfall in October 2025, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) report has shown.
According to commercial performance factsheet published by the commission on Monday, the eleven DisCos collected a total of N210.92 billion revenue out of N255.19 billion billed in the period.
The report also showed that even though the DisCos received N303.85 billion worth of energy in October, they were only able to bill N255.19 billion to customers. This represents 83.9 percent billing efficiency in the period.

Kano, Eko and Ikeja DisCos recorded the highest billing efficiency at 98.05 percent, 95.71 percent and 94.36 percent respectively. While Benin, Yola, Ibadan, Port Harcourt and Enugu recorded the least at 65.32 percent, 66.03 percent, 73.51 percent, 80.32 percent respectively.
Also, jos DisCo recorded a billing efficiency of 84.89 percent, Kaduna DisCo 84.62 percent, and Abuja DisCo 84.05 percent.
Also, the number of active customers rose slightly to 12.07 million from 11.03 million in September, with only 6.77 million of them metered. With this, Nigeria’s metering rate rose to 56.07 percent as of October.
Aba Power Distribution Company recorded one of the most notable improvements, raising its metering rate from 69.49 percent in September to 78.20 percent in October.
Eko DisCo and Ikeja Electric sustained metering rates above 84 percent. Abuja and Ibadan DisCos also made steady gains, a development NERC attributes to better rollout strategies and improved customer onboarding.
However, Enugu, Jos, Kaduna, Kano, and Yola DisCos recorded metering rates below 50 percent.
