Zamfara Begins Batch II Payment of Gratuity Arrears
The Zamfara State Government has approved the commencement of Batch II payment of outstanding gratuity arrears to retired civil servants covering the period from January 2024 to September 2025.
The Commissioner for Information and Culture, Hon. Mahmud Muhammad Dantawasa, disclosed this in a statement issued on the directive of Governor Dauda Lawal.
According to the statement, the development is part of ongoing reforms by the Lawal administration aimed at strengthening public service welfare and addressing inherited liabilities.
“The payment will be carried out in Batch II, with the release of funds expected to commence anytime soon,” the commissioner said.
He explained that the initiative is designed to ease the long-standing financial burden faced by retirees and to restore confidence in the government’s commitment to meeting its obligations.
Dantawasa noted that the payment of gratuities remains a key component of Governor Lawal’s Rescue Mission Agenda, which prioritises workers’ welfare, fiscal responsibility and social justice.
He added that Governor Lawal has reaffirmed that retired civil servants who served the state diligently deserve dignity, respect and the timely settlement of their entitlements.
“His Excellency further emphasised that the Rescue Mission Agenda is focused on rebuilding trust in governance by addressing inherited liabilities in a transparent and sustainable manner,” the commissioner said.
Governor Lawal was also quoted as saying that the clearance of outstanding gratuities is not an act of favour but a moral and statutory responsibility of government.
The statement stressed that no beneficiary is required to seek or solicit any favour from any individual or office to receive payment, noting that all verified and eligible retirees would be paid without discrimination.
The commissioner commended retirees for their patience and understanding, assuring them that additional batches of payments would follow in line with available resources.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Governor Dauda Lawal administration to the full implementation of the Rescue Mission Agenda for the benefit of all citizens of Zamfara State.
