Idris highlights Tinubu’s reforms at BusinessDay Public Service Lecture & Excellence Awards 2025
Mohammed Idris, Minister of Information and National Orientation
Mohammed Idris, Minister of Information and National Orientation, has highlighted ongoing reforms under President Bola Tinubu’s administration as he received recognition at the BusinessDay Public Service Lecture & Excellence Awards 2025.
Idris, at the event on Wednesday in Abuja, described his nomination as an acknowledgment not of personal achievement but of the collective work of the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation.
He said the honor also reflected the administration’s commitment to rebuilding public trust, strengthening national cohesion, and safeguarding the integrity of Nigeria’s information space.
According to him, over the past two years, the Ministry has worked to redefine the country’s national communication framework, prioritising transparency, professionalism, and citizen-centered governance.
He highlighted reforms aimed at revitalising the national orientation framework, improving communication between government and citizens, and promoting media responsibility and ethical standards.
A key milestone, he said, is the establishment of the UNESCO Category 2 International Media and Information Literacy Institute in Abuja—the first of its kind in Africa.
The center, according to the Minister, is poised to become a global hub for research, training, and capacity-building in media literacy, responsible communication, and the fight against misinformation. Its presence in Nigeria demonstrates the country’s growing leadership in fostering an informed and resilient information ecosystem.

Idris commended BusinessDay Media, the BusinessDay Research and Intelligence Unit, and the organisation’s Editorial Board for sustaining a platform that celebrates excellence, reform, and innovation in public service. He also congratulated fellow nominees and awardees for their contributions to national development.
Reaffirming the Ministry’s long-term goals, Idris said the government remains committed to building a more informed, united, and values-driven society. “We will continue to strengthen public communication channels and deepen the reforms necessary for a healthier, more transparent information space,” he said.
The event brought together policymakers, industry leaders, and top public servants to assess and celebrate outstanding contributions to governance and institutional performance across the country.
