8 more suspects linked to Borno mosque bombing arrested
Soldiers of Operation Hadin Kai have arrested eight additional suspects in connection with the recent suicide bombing at a mosque in Maiduguri, Borno State.
This came barely three days after the alleged mastermind of the attack, identified as Sheriff Umar, was arrested by troops in the state capital.
Daily Trust reports that the suicide attack occurred on December 24, 2025, when a bomber detonated an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) inside a mosque at the Gamboru Market, Maiduguri, which killed at least five worshippers and left 35 others injured.
In a statement, the Media Information Officer of Operation Hadin Kai, Sani Uba, said the latest arrests were made during an operation in the Yan Lemu area of Mubi South LGA of Adamawa State.
He said, “A search of the suspects’ residence led to the recovery of cash, mobile phones, identification documents, ATM cards, jewellery and other personal effects which are currently undergoing forensic analysis.”
He added that a suspect already in custody positively identified the two principal suspects as those who supplied materials used in making the IED.
He further said, “Additional occupants of the residence were also linked to the network.”
