FCT Poll: Wike promises more projects as PDP candidate steps down, endorses APC rival in Bwari
Minister of Federal Capital Territory , Nyesom Wike, has promised to build more roads, schools, among others if Joshua Ishaku, candidate of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bwari Area Council wins Saturday election.
Our correspondent reports that Wike made the promise after Julius Adamu, Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the election, stepped down for Ishaku.
Julius, who had the support of the outgoing council chairman, John Gabaya (PDP), surprised his supporters Wednesday afternoon by announcing his decision to withdraw in favor of the preferred choice of Wike.
Daily Trust reports that the Supreme Court affirmed Ishaku as the APC candidate on Tuesday evening, nullifying the candidacy of Shekwolo Audi, who had been the party’s flagbearer.
Shekwolo reportedly lacked the backing of Wike, who had supported Ishaku against the interest of key APC stakeholders.
Explaining his decision to back out of the race, Adamu stated that Ishaku is his “brother” and it would be counterproductive for two brothers to contest the same position.
He added that “fatherly advice” from Minister Nyesom Wike guided his final decision.
Adamu urged his supporters to rally behind the APC candidate during Saturday’s poll.
Wike had earlier threatened candidates opposed to President Bola Tinubu that they would lose the election.
