APC wins Kano Assembly seats as low turnout marks bye-election
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has secured victory in the Kano Municipal and Ungogo State House of Assembly bye-elections, winning both seats in polls characterised by voter apathy.
In Kano Municipal Constituency, the APC candidate, Aliyu Daneji, polled 7,484 votes to defeat his opponents and was declared winner by the Returning Officer, Ibrahim Siraj, a professor.
Similarly, in Ungogo Constituency, Aminu Sa’ad of the APC emerged victorious with 8,975 votes. The result was announced by the constituency’s Returning Officer, Ali Abdullahi, a professor, who returned him duly elected.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said the elections recorded a low turnout of voters across the affected areas.
Abdu Zango, the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Kano State, attributed the development to the timing of the exercise and the limited participation of political parties.
The bye-elections were conducted to fill the vacancies created by the sudden deaths of the lawmakers who previously represented the two constituencies in the Kano State House of Assembly.

Despite the poor turnout, electoral officials reported that voting and collation processes were largely peaceful, with results announced shortly after the conclusion of counting.
The outcome strengthens the APC’s representation in the state legislature and comes amid ongoing political realignments in Kano’s evolving power dynamics.
